Not for me 😔

Heartfelt emotion swirls throughout intense thoughts, reflections, and responses within promising prose.

Synopsis

a disarrayed love story.

Heartfelt prose, succinct sentences and brief chapters flavor this bite-sized romance of “disarrayed love.” The prose is smooth, with vivid word pictures marinated in emotion. It’s a collection of free verse chronicling a broken relationship and the heartbreak and internal chaos that ensues.

The narrative is arranged in roughly chronological order. The first chapter opens in July 2017. Then the narrative back pedals to December 2015, then to March 2016, and into August 2107. Then it shifts back to October 2015, moves on to April 2018 and then into 2019. So the timeline is herky-jerky but not impossible as the story moves from present to looking back in thoughtful hindsight.

Told in the first person, the narrative could be construed as either a missive to a lost love or a series of journal entries or personal reflections. The narrative details what’s going inside the writer’s head. As such, a wide audience may be unlikely.

There is a lot of emotion swirling around some intense thoughts, reflections and responses. Also some perspicacious prose such as "melatonin dreams” and “rusted narrative.”

However, there’s not a lot of meat here. Nor is there any real action. The story takes a while to get rolling and fill in some blanks. One-sentence paragraphs abound throughout the nine chapters.

In terms of structure, transitions are tenuous and the narrative sags and droops at times. At less than forty pages, the book feels more like a run-up or a springboard that’s cut short than a story with a distinct beginning, middle, and end. Even so, young readers may find elements with which they can relate. Others may find it a bit obtuse. Overall, the writing has good potential with some additional work and refinement.

Solitude

2017(July)

I like doing a lot of things.

I like passing out on my futon, losing grip on sanity, and thinking about her every day, somehow she’s embedded in my thoughts.

But if you could get out of my mind, that would ease the pain a lot.

I walked over to the window and reflected on my bleak surroundings. I never did like the monotonous city of Cromerth with its picturesque harbor. It was a place that invigorated my tendency to be timid against people.

I’m also a pluviophile, so I love hearing the rain hammering against the world just like bouncing lizards, which helps me feel lonely.

However, the most bewitching thing about today was that it felt cold even in the midst of July, probably because you weren’t here by my side, not anymore, and I have been stuck in an awful state of mind lately, busy being a lost soul.

Just petrified to be found after what I had to go through.

It’s all blurry in my visions; I hope you’re happy.
