The story of a young girl with separated parents who loves spending time with both but doesn’t like the process of having to move from one place to the other or being without one of her two parents. The story goes on to explore the different kinds of families there are and how families are not all the same, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot of love to fill any number of houses.
The book explores a very sensitive topic in a very artistic manner. It patiently and lovingly explains to young kids that the emotions they feel are okay and validated, and that no matter what their parents are going through, it isn’t their fault and they are absolutely loved just the way they are.
The artwork is very colorful and appealing.
I recommend this book to any family that is not “traditionally conventional” or to anyone who wants to explore with kids the different types of families. The kids are bound to find the book relatable and comforting, whereas the parents can use it as a way to smoothen a difficult or awkward conversation.
The ultimate message of the book is that things happen, but love always shines through, and the message is successfully and beautifully delivered.
