Loved it! 😍

A thought provoking and inspirational set of devotionals which will benefit new and mature Christians alike.

Synopsis

The Sojourner’s Road Home is a great resource for anyone in search of a deeper encounter with God's everlasting love and the discovery of their purpose in His plans. You’ll find hope and encouragement in each day of your journey as He guides you along unforeseen paths leading to profound change within yourself and the world around you.

Our sojourn takes us through a troubled land in tumultuous times, but we can find comfort in knowing we are not aimlessly wandering on the road of life. The journey has much more meaning when we realize we are heading home to the welcoming embrace of our loving Father in heaven.

God is always with us, even when we feel like we are worlds away from everything and everyone we know and love. The Sojourner's Road Home is a reminder that no matter where we go or how long we stay away, we’ll always have a place to come back to, even if our earthy home as we knew it is no longer there.

It is evident throughout the book that Kelly Mack McCoy is a committed Christian who wants to support and encourage others in their journey with God.

The book is well structured with the daily devotionals opening with an interesting quote and powerful Bible verse. I liked that there was a mix of Bible based stories, personal experience and the adventures of famous people. The most compelling asset of this book is the author’s ability to engage with the reader. He uses rhetorical questions to make the reader think and these lead nicely into a space where they can note down their own feelings and prayers.

Our sojourn takes us through a troubled land in tumultuous times,

This a thought provoking phrase which begins the reader’s journey. The alliteration is effective. We are indeed living in tumultuous times. Having lived through the pandemic, we are still surrounded by a world full of sin, where it often seems as if anything goes,

However, the author made me feel safe and secure in the arms of our precious Father.

‘May your Anticipatory Anxiety be replaced with Anticipatory Joy.’

This is a well worded phrase, reminding us that we should trust God and approach experiences with joy instead of anxiety.

I really liked the idea of the Holy Spirit as our internal GPS and that ‘God does not do random things’. God has a plan for each of us. Day 11 considers this, thinking about how our destiny is shaping by the paths we choose.

‘Join the crowd. We all make mistakes during our walk with him.’

The fact that the author acknowledges he also makes mistakes will resonate with the reader.

This book will make a useful addition to any Christian book shelf. The daily devotionals encourage the reader to stay close to God and provides useful prompts to make you think.

DAY 1 - Not of This World

My home is in Heaven. I’m just traveling through this world.

~Billy Graham

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

(John 18:36)

Jesus Christ was a sojourner on this earth. He was a King from another country. Why would this King leave His glorious kingdom to be born into a poor family and live as a common laborer only to die a horrible death on the cross? Why did He choose such a life for His journey here? He must have had a greater purpose than that.

God does not do random things. He sent His Son to live and die and then live again when He overcame death and the grave so that we might live! Jesus came for you and me. He came so our true home could be with Him in His country. He came so that He could be our true home.

Have you put your faith in Him? Have you accepted Jesus as Lord and made His home your home? If you have, He has prepared a place for you in His Father’s house in Heaven (John 14:2). You now dwell in your spiritual home with God as you travel the road back to Him into the eternal dwelling place.

Jesus was just passing through this world as He traveled from Eternity to Eternity. His sojourn here ended on the cross before He was raised in glory. How will your sojourn end? Will you be raised with Him? If you choose to believe in Jesus as Lord, He’s coming back for you.

May your sojourn in this world have meaning and purpose from this day forward.
