Worth reading 😎

Peter the picky bear is a skillfully etched character who is a lovable, frank, and harmless creature.

Synopsis

What kind of polar bear doesn't like fish? A Peter kind of polar bear, that's what kind!

Peter's mummy, his daddy and even his teacher have tried to get Peter to eat his fish, but he has made up his mind. Peter has had a very good look, and he definitely does not like fish.

This beautifully simple story will encourage the pickiest of eaters to keep an open mind when there's a new food to try!

The fun activity page and comprehension questions at the end of the story will promote discussion with your child and encourage understanding.

Adorable illustrations and an uncomplicated narrative will make Peter the Picky Polar Bear a firm favourite with young children.

In Peter The Picky Polar Bear by Kieshia Chun and illustrated by Charlotte Watkins, a question repeatedly pops up within Peter’s day as he encounters different persons. The answer to the question is repeatedly the same. The alliteration and repetition within the line give an upbeat tempo to the line that facilitates an up-tempo oral delivery of the story.

Equally engaging are the bold, bright and expressive illustrations that aptly capture the range of emotions displayed by Peter. Watkins captures Peter’s expressions of dislike, dismay, and sheer delight. Peter’s short sentences and his simple perky responses reflect the responses of children as they wrangle with the development of their oral expressions to find words that would adequately convey their feelings to a concerned listener.

Children will find in Peter’s action a mirror to themselves, and the morale of the story proves rewarding for both children and parents. The book is ideally suited for children two to five years old.Peter the picky bear is a skillfully etched character who is a lovable, frank, and harmless creature. Peter’s rigid stance against eating fish poses a problem for his parents and it is his friend the penguin who saves Peter from starvation.

How absolutely adorable are these peg dolls that I had made, after an awesome small business owner got in touch and asked if she could paint my characters. 🥰 I’m so pleased with how my book is affecting so many children and encouraging them to try new foods. It feels great! ❤️

Jane McGeeThis is a fantastic, beautifully illustrated book, with exclamation marks galore!!! It makes me smile. It inspires a positive mental attitude. It will make you want to sit your child down and impart the overall take home message of don’t rule things out until you have tried them! The activities at the end of the book are also a nice idea. I can’t recommend it more highly.
