A sweet story that reminds children and adults alike that our imperfections are what make us perfect.
Molly’s lost smile.
When Molly loses a tooth just before her class picture day, she finds that she has lost her smile too! Poor Molly was hoping for a “perfect” picture in her pretty outfit but now she doesn’t feel like smiling for her picture at all. Molly learns that mishaps happen to everyone and that no one is “perfect” in this charming school story.
Pria Dee is at it again with another adorable story about Molly. In this installment of the series, Molly is so excited for her upcoming picture day. She picks out the perfect pink outfit and dreams about how great she will look on her picture day.Â
The morning before the big day, Molly wakes up with a wobbly tooth that threatens to ruin her plans. When her tooth finally falls out, she realizes she can’t take the perfect picture! She frowns at the photographer and is afraid to show her missing tooth.
The other children take their pictures and smile happily despite sporting what might be viewed as imperfections. Molly notices that no one looks “perfect” for their pictures, and decides to take hers again with a great big smile.Â
The illustrations in this book were cute and inviting, with the flow of narrations and pictures easy to read. It was appropriately paced for a children’s book, and its length seemed to fit nicely with the others in its class. I think the area that really made this story shine, however, was its beautiful message.

Molly learned at the end of the day that no one is perfect, and therefore all of us are perfect in our own way. This is a lesson that children should be taught early on in life, and which adults constantly need to be reminded of. Some things are out of our control. Sometimes we don't live up to our expectations or look as "perfect" as we think we should, and that's okay! We're all in this together, and we should embrace our imperfections.
I highly recommend choosing Molly and the Picture Day to read with your little one! Children will enjoy following Molly on yet another of her adventures in life, and parents will appreciate taking the journey with them.
