I didn't expect this book to be as it was, and I am pleasantly surprised.
When I saw this book in my feed, I had no idea it was going to be like this. To start with, it is a graphic novel and I didn't know it when I was signing up to review it. It is not that I don't like them; in fact, I've been reading a couple of graphic novels this month. We can say this is one of my first contacts with the genre. The good news is that I want to continue exploring it. The bad news... I think I am going to forget this book after I read more.
One thing I really really enjoyed about the book is the drawing style. That black and white way of picturing the story caught my eye from the very beginning. Also, I loved the scenes that were represented. Not the content of the depiction itself, but the way the representation of the different scenes is made.
To be honest, one of the things I didn't like about this book is the confusion around it. Both characters are named P, and even though we can find an aclaration before starting the story, I found myself constantly remembering that female P was on the left and male P was on the right. It annoyed me.
Another thing that is improvable, in my opinion, is the scene coherence. Many a time I felt lost while reading because I didn't see a clear connection between the current and the last scene, and that slowed me down, because I had to come back a few scenes, analyse what was happening and then try to wrap my head around it. I have no idea if it was my fault due to being a beginner in the genre or if other more experienced readers would also feel this way.
To finish, it is a book I recommend if you are feeling in the mood for it. I don't regret giving this a chance.
Hello! My name is Noelia. I'm a 25-years-old Spanish girl that spends most of her time behind a book. I started taking my reviewing journey a bit more seriously around 2 years ago. I love writing my thoughts on Goodreads, a little bit on Instagram too, and I also speak on Youtube about my readings.
Set predominantly in modern day Paris, La Vie En Rose is the story of late love, unexpected love, epiphanic, brilliant, foolish, all-consuming, life-changing, time-spanning, story-spinning, never-ending love.
It follows an older couple from their initial meeting through a dizzying descent into a world inhabited only by them and the characters they create as they attempt to build a life for themselves away from the restrictions of convention.
La Vie En Rose is tragic, beautiful and inevitable.
Like the essence of true love itself.
(It also features a pantomime horse.)
Enjoy this trip...
