Life's Biggest Mysteries

“... of All Things Seen, and Unseen” —The Apostles’ Creed

If this was a game show like Family Feud, you could imagine Richard Dawson or Steve Harvey saying: “Name the top 3 Biggest Mysteries of all time?” “The survey said:”

1. Is there a God?

2. How did we get here?

3. Why are we here?

The answers the show’s host was looking for might be correct. But the answers to those questions can only be theorized. Is there a God? A good answer to this greatest of all mysteries might be, “God exists if you want him to exist.” Is having or not having a conception of God a “deal-breaker” in living a happy life?

When it became critical for me to comprehend the meaning, I, like most, grappled with the concept of “God.” My research was excruciatingly enjoyable since I appreciate challenges and am natu- rally curious by nature. I had endless questions running through my

mind. Hmmm, is it a man or a woman? An individual or a group? Or just a beam of light, and would that one or more be omnipotent or omnipresent? I mentioned the word “theorized” above because there are no photographs or first-hand accounts. Although the Romans had 12 gods of their own, most of them were named after the plan- ets, which is probably in someone else’s book. Mahatma Gandhi once said: “The soul of religion is one, but it is encased in a multitude of forms.”

Twelve-step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, have become a significant part of my life. The concept of “God of my understanding” or “Higher Power,” as they refer, is covered in the chapters ahead.

I had loosely followed the concept in my program for 3 ½ years with “My God!” Although just words, they have a powerful and appropriate meaning. “My Creator,” hereafter “God.” How could I have overlooked such a fitting title for what is responsible for my entire existence? I hope to bring together the “big picture” with The Creator of all things seen and unseen.
