A cozy suspense/thriller - Finlay Donovan is Killing it with grace and poise

"And to think you were worried about a damn shower curtain. Nothing says 'serial killer like a chest freezer in a garage."

The storyline is intriguing, and I haven't been able to put this book down since I began it! The fact that all I wanted to find out was what was going to take place next made it so hard for me to do anything else.

I went into this book without reading the synopsis, merely knowing that it was a murder mystery, so if you haven't read the synopsis, don't! It was so much fun to explore the plot with no knowledge of how it would turn out.

Finlay Donovan, a suburban housewife, and the struggling author is not killing it. Her life is unraveling: she is late for her book deadline, bills are piling up due to her lack of money, she is embroiled in a custody fight with her ex-husband, and she is now without a nanny. That is until someone overhears her talking about the storyline of her current suspense thriller with her agent and misidentifies her as a contract killer. The narrative rapidly becomes crazy as Donovan becomes entangled in criminal life.

The entire time, despite Finlay's dubious decisions, I rooted for her. I also really like the cozy mystery or comic mystery vibes that keep readers wondering throughout. It's always fun when an author offers you the opportunity to make connections before anything is disclosed, as Elle Cosimano does. I have to admit that although there were certain elements that I accurately predicted, there were also several that I was completely unprepared for. Although I wouldn't call it an unputdownable thriller, I'd still suggest this book to anybody who enjoys a good mystery without a lot of the harsher themes and features that are normally found in the category.

The writing in this book was well-timed with the events of the plot. Things swiftly spiral out of hand due to stupid decisions and many predicaments, and I enjoyed following Finlay's journey as she attempted to rectify everything.

Overall:

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It, is an exciting, well-written story that will leave you smiling, pondering, and intrigued. The narrative is a little far-fetched and may appear over the top to some, but I believe it worked well and made the story even more entertaining! If I were, to sum up, this book in a single word, it would be "fun."
