Farmer Cody’s animals are having a lot of different feelings today. Cranky or silly, happy or sad, it’s important to understand emotions and how they make you feel.
A playful social emotional learning tale that supports healthy emotional intelligence.
As our children grow from infants to toddlers, we begin teaching them the names and sounds of animals. Feelings on the Farm highlights nine backyard friends, the emotions they are experiencing, a short sentence encompassing the feeling, and adorable illustrations portraying each emotion.
Feelings on the Farm begins with cranky chickens who cannot find their eggs. Children are not the only ones who get cranky when they misplace something. Adults, too, get irritable and frustrated when our keys, wallets, phone, and much more fly the coop. Next, Parents, daycare workers, and babysitters have seen many "grouchy goats" who do not want to nap. Finally, like the canine in the story, every parent has experienced a child's disappointment over the dinner choices.
Feelings on the Farm is an excellent children's book that several ages can utilize. The storybook can be used to teach animal names. You can use the animal headers to help teach or reinforce colors. Three to five-year-olds will love the humorous illustration created by the talented artist David Lock. Plus, this age bracket is perfect for discussing feelings and how they handle emotions expressed by the cast members. For example, when is it okay and not okay to share food? And, was the mouse right or wrong when he became extremely mad over the prospect of sharing his cheese? Parents and educators will love the simplicity of the text and how the book is the perfect length for beginning readers.
Feelings on the Farm by Heather Wall and Claire Young has something to offer babies (bright colors and large images) and toddlers (animal names and colors). Plus, it allows preschoolers and kindergartners to understand feelings and the opportunity for independent reading.

I've been constructing reviews for over a decade and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Most of the reviews will be featured on my blog (Kam's Place), Pinterest, Instagram, BlueSky, and Goodreads. Don't forget to tip your waitress! :D
