I took a holiday to Scotland and packed some books with me. One was this one Red Rising which I had had difficulty getting into. I should say if you like Hunger Games you will like this book, but its not that simple. I think this is Hunger Games for boys, and its very much influenced by Game of Thrones, with levels of brutality and violence that goes beyond easy reading. The hero is Darrow is a Helldiver. A pioneer of Mars. He lives below ground prepping the planet for the arrival of the survivors from Earth, except... except... There is a difficult transition from the mining community below ground, to the world above ground, but ultimately Darrow ends up in a year long game of survival, and from that point onwards you just cannot put down. However the brutality is harsh, so will I read the next one? Probably, but not straight away.
