Worth reading 😎

One woman. Three ghosts. A crazy ability which brings the four together.

You're So Dead to Me is the first instalment in the Grimdale Graveyard Mysteries series by Steffanie Holmes.

Bree, our FMC can see and hear dead people, and it is a blessing and a curse. She is inundated by ghosts every second of every day. Upon returning to her hometown in Grimdale, after venturing across the world, old memories come back to haunt Bree (no pun intended!).

I picked up this book upon reading the blurb because I was intrigued by how different it sounded, compared to other romance books with paranormal themes I have read in the past. The fact that Bree is the only one able to communicate with ghosts adds an extra layer to the plot as she has to navigate daily life without people thinking she's crazy, which is something that is mentioned throughout.

Despite this being a romance, I didn't really enjoy the MMCs and what they brought to the story. I understand that each love interest needs to be unique and offer something different to Bree, but the fact that they're all from different time periods seems to take precedence over any sort of character-building. There is tension between Bree and the MMCs almost immediately, but the lack of chemistry and communication throughout the book doesn't really offer much in terms of enjoyment. The smut felt abrupt also.

I found myself more invested in the sub-plot(s) than anything, and I found Bree's character to shine when she was faced with these situations. I wish these were expanded upon more as I probably would have enjoyed the book more, but this was a romance book after all, so I understand.

The writing was fine, but the language used especially by the MMCs was jarring. There is a big focus on British humour and sarcasm, which is appreciated, but it doesn't really complement the severity of some of the plot we encounter.

It's an okay and easy read, hence the rating, but I don't think I will continue with the series.
