Nigel Draper's WYNTER'S DISCONTENTis about hunting down a gang that counterfeit money with the help of Wynter who is extremely well at plotting and successfully making his way out of every troublesome situation. But the story is not about something simple. There are a lot of plot twists present in it.
The atmosphere is tensed from the very beginning of the book which is apt for describing such a story that involves betrayals, spine-chilling accounts of murdering someone, corruption, fraud at each step and sharp plotting to suit individual's needs.
The story holds up the corrupt influence that the Federal system of America has on its people and society and how the gang members exploit the loopholes to successfully pursue their illegal activities. It also shows how a senator is involved in this horrendous crime and its repercussions.
The character of the protagonist, Gerry Wynter is extremely well-portrayed. The introduction of his character instantly makes the readers aware of the extent to which he can go to come out of trouble safely. Wynter is a very clever schemer and is also engaged in illegal activities but he is not a bad human being. Even the head of the West Coast section of the Secret Service, Meredith Delaney gets impressed with him.
Meredith has decided to embark on an operation to find out the real person who leads the gang and in this process, she asks for Wynter's help. But the twist is at the end. The story of the book almost leaves the readers breathless as they will confront several situations while reading that will make them curious about the upcoming events.
The plot of the story will keep the readers guessing about the identity of the real suspect behind all of these. The author has constructed the plot in such a manner that everyone seems to be involved in the process of counterfeiting money.
I especially liked the ending of the story that shows how Wynter proves to be an excellent schemer and also the other aspect of his character. Wynter is a true multi-dimensional character with different shades and aspects.
I would definitely like to recommend this book to the readers if they want to enjoy the experience of going through a blood-curdling operation conducted by the Secret Service, its complications, and processes that involve risks at every step with the multi-faceted character of Wynter.
