When She Unravels by Gabrielle Sands is the first of The Fallen series. I decided to try it and, oh my God, is it addictive! Anyway, I don’t want to get ahead of myself so let’s begin with a short summary of the book first.

He’s the most powerful man in Ibiza, and he’ll do anything to make me his.

I’ve been raised to be the perfect mafia wife, but when my marriage turns into a horrific nightmare, I have no choice but to leave everything behind and start a new life.

I find myself alone in Ibiza—a place that swallows innocent girls like me alive. I’m robbed the day I arrive, left with nothing but a few euros and the clothes on my back.

When She Unravels is the love story of Valentina and Damiano. Both come from affluent don families. Valentina escapes her husband’s clutches and lands in Ibiza – right in front of Damiano. Something stops Damiano from shooing away Valentina and he agrees to employ her, as she takes this opportunity to stay hidden. The attraction and the chemistry between them don’t make it easier for her to move away when she finds out that her family is actively looking for her. Damiano tries getting to know her better but how can Valentina trust anyone, especially after the way her husband treated her?

Their initial hate-to-love chemistry is super absorbing and romantic. The book dives into details of how the mafia works, and what the families go through, and all of that adds to the flavour of the story. It has been brilliantly written. I finished the book in one go and didn’t wait to read the next one. Also, love the cover!

Now that I am in the last book of the series, I can safely say that this is the best dark romance book I have ever read. It is relatable, much more subtle for my liking, and engrossing. I can’t wait for the author to come up with more stories for us to lap up.
