What You Wish For by Katherine Center is exactly what any book lover would ask for - a blue-ribbon book!
You ever read a book, and you think, nah, it is not going to be good … it is going to be a typical fluff book? And then, you read it, and by page seven, you are like so into the book that you feel like the words are meant just for you.
Yeah, and it is a fiction novel.
Katherine Center’s “What You Wish For” was just such a book for me.
And the story’s message is way beyond just a typical coming of age book – it is about joy. With everything going on today – all the heartbreak - “What You Wish For” is timely, and filled with characters that we all can relate too.
Samantha Casey, a school librarian, is happy in her life and in her job. Life hasn’t always been that way for Sam – she has had a lot of toxicity in her life, with a not so easy family life, and then she has had to deal with epilepsy.
Then, there is Duncan Carpenter – a man from her past – well, a crush from her past – who ends up at her new job as the ‘boss.’ He is stricter now though.
Which makes Samantha wonder what she ever saw in him before.
Katherine Center has become fast and furiously one of my favorite writers – and her writing style is personable, and is filled with intricate details that are sewn together in pure artistry.
It is sequel worthy, but at the same time, the book was just that good, that I am not sure I want a sequel – it ended well, and full of surprises!
“What You Wish For” reminds me of a tasty, aromatic pot of homemade gumbo – with a little bit of love, a little bit of joy, a little bit of forgiveness, a little bit of leaving your comfort zone and a lot of surprises.
Katherine Center deserves a prize for this one for sure!
