Must read 🏆

If you want to read a compelling story with action, romance, great characters, and a glimpse into the anxious mind this book is for you!

Zara, our main character, is a single woman with generalized anxiety disorder that manifests as internal dialogue. However this doesn’t stop her from trying to help others. She works as a therapist for children in foster care; helping them to work through their traumatic experiences. This in turn helps motivate her to not let the anxious thoughts rule her life. She has people who need her to show up every day.

One day she bumps into Zach and her anxiety tells her to run! He’s too good to be true. He must be a serial killer. These and other thoughts pop up, but slowly she begins to trust him and a budding relationship begins.

As I began reading this book I was taken aback. For the first time in my life I read my internal thoughts on a page. Because of that, I was connected with Zara from page one. I wanted to see her succeed. See her not just get through her trials, but come out stronger on the other side.

Besides Zara, Tiffany wrote amazing side characters. Chelsea, a teenager in foster care. Isla, a little girl also in foster care. And finally Zach, a rich businessman who’s falling in love with Zara (and may I say I’m falling for him too). Each of these characters brings a different perspective and depth to the story. They help propel our protagonist through her story, while maintaining stories of their own. Some of which we get to see in this first book and some that I hope we’ll get in future installments.

A few trigger warnings; assault (not sexual), self deprecating thoughts, killing in self defense, tragic death of a loved one, child abuse (doesn’t happen within the story, but is mentioned in a therapy session).

This book deals with a lot of hard topics, but still maintains an entertaining and somewhat lighthearted air. All the characters have been through trials, but they don’t stop trying to be better. That’s the message of this book that struck me.

I have loved reading my entire life. When I was too small to read, my dad would read Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew to me. When I got my library card I maxed out the number of books I could get and would routinely stay up way past bedtime to read. I know what makes a good story and good writing.
