Tweet Tweet, the playful little penguin, teaches kids how to manage their fears.
Today, with her special friends in school, Pegie, Violet and Blaze, they set off for their swimming exams. As they can all swim, this shouldn’t be too much of a challenge, only Madame Montgomery the teacher at school, adds a twist. They have to solve puzzles while swimming!
All does not go well. But after a wild day of fear, agonizing and excitement, they return to school, triumphant. The team of four Super Heroes stayed together despite the odds and once again overcame their fears.
Kids will love Book Two as they quickly find that they can read most of it on their own! Lots of rhymes, pictures, strange words all help with the excitement.
And, watch out for the news at the end! Something special is happening!!.
This is a a Level 2 chapter book for new readers 6-9 years old.
With a straightforward title as positive as this read-aloud tale’s content, the author adds a fourth volume to her three-book series about grade-schooler penguins in an icy land. The main character Tweet Tweet and friends learn much about how to respond to daily challenges. Readers will quickly note those lessons are what the author intends for readers. That makes, We Are All Super Heroes!, a clever means to teach positive values, emotional intelligence and community.
Eleanor Wint, a retired sociology professor, expands an interest in positive parenting evident in her 2016 nonfiction work, I Like Me: 5 Easy Ways for Parents to Help Children Feel Awesome About Themselves, and the 2017, Rockstar Mom: 7 Ways to Be the Greatest Mom Ever, into fiction through this tale. The previous efforts to build a world through which she shows children how to behave are in the 2020 tales – Family Fun Day: Away With Anxiety!, The Adventures of Tweet Tweet: The Really Awesome Penguin and The Magical Christmas Festival.
It would have been great to see the previous works, but the plot, pace and prose of, We Are All Super Heroes!, well demonstrates the author’s skill at reaching the goal. She engages readers’ imaginations to fathom lovable flightless sea birds in a landscape of ice flows above and below the sea. The penguin team plays and explores during a journey of discovery. Also, Wint teases readers with clues that make the narrative more playful and instructive. For example, a clue for the child listeners or readers to ponder states, “I am as big above as I am below. Walk on top, but go with the flow.”
Many children will be stumped, particularly those who know little or nothing about Earth’s polar regions. That opens an opportunity for parents and others who share the book to toss in arctic environmental lessons. Wint does not. The characters explain:
“It’s got to be the big iceberg ” Pegie said. “It’s as big under the water as it is on top. We sometimes play on it and slide down into the water. Then we swim under it!”
“Very good Pegie,’ said Madame Montgomery. “Off you go, group One.”
We Are All Super Heroes! squarely hits so many intellectual and developmental needs of children. Adults who have not read the book, should make an effort.
I review a broad range of works in fiction, nonfiction and poetry, especially related to history, politics, culture, and memoir. My works go back more than 40 years in a wide range of publications. I love a good story and really appreciate knowledge.
