(Question)
Why is hard science fiction not as popular as it once was?
(Bottom line of his perfect answer)
Hard science fiction's message:
Wishing won’t make it so.
Soft science fiction's message:
Wishing will make it so.
Which is a much more popular notion.

My book - Vision-Man - combines the two back together: it's all optimistic can-do attitude together with deep understanding and uncompromising reality of the real science and technology.
In a way, it's like bringing back the spirit of the big three of 20th century science fiction (Asimov, Clarke and Heinlein) - but updated to our 21st century advanced science and technology.
This book is very special in one more way: It is completely free (non-for-profit project), and translated to a dozen languages, in the hope that the actual inventions described in the book will one day save the world.
This graphic novel is a clever blend of “hard science” and “soft science.” It combines an “optimistic can-do attitude together with deep understanding and uncompromising reality of the real science and technology.”
The protagonist, Vision-Man, is the leader of HOPE (Highschoolers Organization Protecting Earthlings). He logs into “Sweatshop,” an encrypted virtual reality software program hacked by the Siberian Tigress of Russia. Once logged in, Vision-Man joins Tigress in the Eastern Siberian Arctic Shelf. An emergency situation is brewing. A big one.
To explain, Tigress sends Vision Man a You Tube video in which Professor Guy McPherson explains the situation. The professor maintains that drilling for oil and the aggregate effects of carbon dioxide gas, methane gas and greenhouse effects will result in human extinction within ten years. There doesn’t appear to be any solution.
But Vision-Man has an idea. It’s part science. Part inspiration. Part creative “thinking outside the box.” Will it work? And most importantly, will it work in time to save humanity from imminent demise?
This is a fun and thoughtful read. There’s a lot of science in the text. Don't let that scare you. It’s broken down into bite-sized pieces that are easy to digest. A link to a You Tube video explaining the “real science” is included for those interested in learning more, which is helpful. The story repeats around the halfway mark with slightly different graphics.
Vision-Man is one of the better graphic novels I’ve read. The font is easy to read. Since the text is not crammed onto the page so it competes with the graphics, it helps move the story along both visually and textually. The graphics are top-notch, both colorful and crisp. The illustrations relating to Siberia and Professor McPherson are especially good. The story could be ripped from today's headlines. It also does an excellent job of explaining the “greenhouse effect.” It’s So. Darn. Clever.
Graphic novel fans will find Vision-Man not only entertaining but also educational and inspiring.
