This one has been on my tbr list since it came out. I am glad I finally did! It was a roller coaster on the pacing, but it worked with the story. There were some points I lost interest, but overall, the story held my attention. I noticed there was a sequel. I will most likely continue this series.

Kyra is the main character of the story. I enjoyed her personality and how she grew in the story. The author wrote her character arc well and her journey was more than what most could handle. Kyra had a good head on her shoulders once she started understanding what was happening to her. If the sequel continues to follow her story, I am hoping to see how her arc continues to grow.

The Walfish crew, what can I say? I loved them! Each crew member added something special, and they cared for each other like family. I know that sounds cliche, but that is how I took the crew. They all have their backstory on how and why they joined the Walfish. And let us not forget the pig and cat. Are they still in stasis? I would have to say my favorite crew member would have to be the ship’s mind. He cracked me up with his crazy personality. I hope this crew is in book 2.

The aliens, for me, were kind of hard to follow, even with the explanations that were given. There were different types and sides. It was hard to keep up with who was who and with whom. At some points, the action felt too busy.

The setting occurred in multiple places, but mostly on the Walfish. The author did well on writing the few locations. As a reader, you can visually see the few planets, ships, and bases. What the author also did well was how different cultures and societies were a mixture of earthy and creativity.

I enjoyed this story. There was some confusion, but I enjoyed it overall. If you like science fiction, adventure, aliens and space fighting, I recommend this novel to those who like Science fiction, space opera, aliens, and first contact stories.

My reviews are honest, short, and to the point without giving away any spoiler. The ratings I give are based on how much the story drew me in at the time I am reading it. Am I staying up late at night or can I not wait to read it the next day.
