I enjoyed reading The Train Rolls On and would strongly recommend every young reader to get a copy! The poetry and illustrations are exceptional. My only regret is that I did not read this book sooner! If you are in the market for a picture book, then please get this book from your local bookstore!
In brief, the story is about a train that is focused on getting to its destination on time. There are several obstacles to overcome, but it must remain focused on its goal. In this picture book, young readers will learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork.
The author, Jodi Adams, uses rhyming schemes that are easy to mimic and remember. This book is only 19 pages long, so I would not be surprised if children begin to repeat this story on their own after reading it a couple of times.
I especially loved the idea of repeating the phrase “The Train Rolls On” on almost every page spread in bold whimsical capital letters. This effectively communicates the importance of perseverance. Well done!
I must also make special mention of Christina Wald, who did an amazing job with the illustrations. They are entertaining and do a remarkable job of telling the story. In one word – epic! I particularly enjoyed the drawing of the engineer on page 13. This illustration alone will leave a warm endearing feeling in many hearts.
I would encourage anyone who is in the market for a fun and motivating story to share with young readers, to pick up a copy of this book at your local bookstore!
