Are you a dino enthusiast? Does your child love watching dino movies, dino cartoons, or playing with plastic dino toys? If so, I've got the perfect book for your family! The thing about...Dinosaurs by Steven Megson teaches a lot of basic facts about dinosaurs. The story doesn't present the info in a structured workbook format. This book gives information in a general layout with bright images that will educate and delight young readers.
The information provided is more geared toward toddlers and preschoolers. Facts such as some dinosaurs are found in the water while others live on land are common knowledge for kindergartners and first and second graders. This book doesn't list which dino ate meat and which ate plants. It did have a cute and funny image of a tyrannosaurus and triceratops eating their meals on plates while utilizing a tree trunk as their table. Great illustration, Vikkireds!
The thing about...Dinosaurs didn't use words such as carnivore or herbivore. It didn't list any dinosaur names. It only had general information. Due to the simplicity of the text, this book is ideal for beginning readers.
Since I received an advanced copy of the story, I'm going to give my best recommendation for who's the intended audience. This book is perfect for parents looking for a dinosaur book for their toddler, preschooler, or young reader. It is not ideal for people seeking a dinosaur story that incorporates dinosaur names and specific information for young elementary students (first and second graders). I would've liked to see end credits featuring dino images, their respective names, sizes, dietary needs, and other facts to extend the learning aspect. However, if you are purchasing this book to share with a toddler, it's perfect.
No matter the age of the reader/listener, I think they'll all agree the illustrations by Vikkireds were phenomenal!
