Worth reading 😎

The Space Between Dreaming is a heartwarming story of friendship and healing that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

Synopsis

Grace and Jane both crave family but for much different reasons. Grace longs for the child she was never able to conceive and Jane for the new family she will have once she marries her boyfriend. They meet and become unlikely friends when Grace’s husband paints his masterpiece and Jane’s gallery represents him.

As they ponder their future, Jane’s meddling 80-year-old landlady helps them see the beauty in letting go of expectation. Grace and Jane each see something different in the painting, and it causes them to look beyond their stubborn dreams to a fresh reality that could hold the key to their happiness.

In her book The Space Between Dreaming, Cherie Burbach explores the tale of Grace and Jane, two women who discover companionship and solace in one another. Jane is a young lady who is preparing to be married and start a family, while Grace is a middle-aged woman who has been unable to conceive. When they first meet, they develop an odd friendship that enables them to appreciate the beauty in their lives, despite their suffering.

The little Californian hamlet of Willow Creek serves as the setting for the book. Grace, a well-known artist, and her husband, Tom, recently relocated to Willow Creek. Tom, a physician, is beginning a new position at the neighbourhood hospital. Jane is a waitress at the local diner who is about to get married to her high school sweetheart, Michael.

When Grace enters the diner for breakfast, she runs into Jane. Grace quickly appeals to Jane with her warmth and clear passion for the arts. Both Jane's warmth and her sense of humour appeal to Grace. The two ladies get along well and soon start telling each other their darkest secrets.

Grace shares with Jane her lifelong desire to become a mother. She shares with Jane her years of infertility treatments with her as well as the agony of miscarriage. Jane shares with Grace her personal apprehensions about starting a family. She confides in Grace her concerns that she won't be a good mother and her worries that she will let Michael down.

Jane's pregnancy puts their friendship to the test. Grace is ecstatic for Jane, but she also feels jealous. She struggles to be joyful for her friend since she views Jane's pregnancy as a reminder of her own infertility. Jane is also having trouble. She worries about being a good mother and about disappointing Michael.

In this trying period, Grace and Jane count on one another for comfort. They support one another in overcoming their worries and in discovering optimism. In the end, Grace and Jane's relationship enables them to overcome their suffering and discover joy.

Beautiful and emotional, The Space Between Dreaming is a book about the value of hope and the strength of friendship. You'll remember this story long after you've finished reading it. Anyone searching for an uplifting and thought-provoking book should definitely read it, in my opinion.
