Synopsis
Liam Barrett embodied the dreams of his immigrant family, bound for Harvard Law School. When his father unexpectedly dies, he gives up his plans to become the family breadwinner. As a policeman who abhors violence, he strives to keep peace in his community.
When a young woman is found murdered near the estate of mill owner Alistair Cunningham, Cunningham pressures Liam to make a quick arrest. But Liam wants justice. As he fights to ensure that an innocent man isn’t railroaded, Liam uncovers a plot which forces him to choose between his convictions and protecting his town.
The poem’ ‘The Sorrowful Girl’ by Emily Hart is a beautifully poignant work that I wanted to read and re-read over and over again. The story revolves around Elara who learns about the loss and hope of life after a fatal incident both as a child and adult. Hart uses lyrical perspicacious storytelling to generate an aura which lives on beyond the mind of his readers. Pros:Romantic Style: Taking Art to Heart: Hart’s writing is very much lyrical and captures Elara’s feelings beautifully. The choice of words is thus descriptive leading to capturing pictures in the minds of the audience since they are able to relate with the character of the movie. Character Development: Even though Elara is pretty much the standard chick flick character, I like how her emotion and character development is done. The other characters in the movie are also significant as each of them is useful to the overall plot in a unique way. Emotional Depth: The story is also full of ideas such as mourning, dreams, and recovery. Hart tells these stories with great compassion and shows how the individual automatically learns how to survive, as well as how to be a survivor. Atmospheric Setting: The descriptions of the setting, both of the exterior and interior environments, also contribute to the overall mood of the novel. Cons:: Even though there is some criticism on the speed of this novel 5 – some people may consider it unsatisfactory, especially in the middle of the book. This is beneficial and brings about in-depth character analysis however it may not be appealing to those who are fans of action packed stories. Predictability: The story leaves scope for predictions about some aspects of the story which can be a reason for disappointment for some readers. Interestingly, the emotion factor is not left aside either throughout the story.
Conclusion:The Sorrowful Girl is a great novel in terms of its literary characterization and motifs that revolve around great emotional themes about humanity. My place Emily Hart’s ability to tell a story through life experiences that touches the heart of the reader is admirable. Some may find the rhythm too slow and tired of predicting the movie outcomes; however, on the whole, it is a work of art and profound self-reflection. It is quite a remarkable book written to showcase the spirit of living on, and the power of love.
