It's race day! The Six Horse by Shani Night follows six-year-old Shani as she invites readers to tag along as her favorite horse, the six horse, prepares for family race day.
Shani understands just what the six horse is communicating by the way his tail swooshes and his hooves stomp —he even has a special wink. But will that bond be enough to see the six horse through to the finish line?
Kids will be fascinated by preparations for the race, mesmerized by Shani's race commentary, and inspired by Shani's post-race pep talk. The Six Horse is organized into easily digestible chapters making it a pleasant read for newly independent readers.
From page one, the author's passion for horses shines through as she excellently captures the thrill of race day and the excitement that young Shani feels. Kids will effortlessly connect with Shani as she animatedly explains the ins and outs of the horse farm.
While the cover and book could benefit from a more professional design, and some of the text may be too difficult for young readers, horse lovers will love it all the same.
The Six Horse is the first in a new series, and readers will walk away from the book having learned more about the world of horses and eager to read the next installment.
Perfect for new readers, horse lovers, and teachers —and I look forward to reading more about Shani's adventures!
