Packed with lawyers, judges, and eager law interns - all with their own agendas - this is a who-done-it you won't be able to put down.
This was my first book by this author and it was a real back and forth, twisty, suspenseful murder mystery. The protagonist is Rachel North, a law intern, who finds herself caught-up in a web of murder and lies. Married to Jack Kirkland, a famous defense lawyer, she reluctantly takes her internship with Jack's arch enemy, Martha Gardiner- a hardnosed prosecutor. These two go head-to-head in the courtroom and out. They also stretch the letter of the law with dubious intent to suit their own ends. While Rachel does a tightrope walk between her husband and her boss, she starts to realize she might be just a pawn in their struggle to win no matter what. Then Martha starts looking into a cold case involving Rachel's co-worker that was murdered six years ago. Rachel tries to stay objective, but is quickly drawn into the investigation that involves her past. As new facts are uncovered and new motives come to light, Rachel no longer knows who to trust or confide in. Well written, and full of flawed characters with questionable ethics, Hank Phillippi Ryan has created the perfect storm. One that kept me guessing who were the good guys really were all the way through. I can't say more without giving spoilers, but the end of this one is a shocker you won't see coming.
I am the author of The Lara Chronicles - a paranormal thriller series. Sunrise Calling-Book I, was released in 2019, and now, Storm Rising - Book II was just published in May 2020...more are on the way. Thinking positive, it's a blockbuster!
