Synopsis

What you can control and what you can't is the core question to ask!

This little book provides techniques, skills and information the reader can use on their own, while also receiving guidance for when it's necessary to call for professional help. It is written for those who don't make a counseling appointment because they're not sure about the process or if it will help. This little book is a carry along counseling handbook to read, review, and apply what is common in counseling sessions regarding the symptoms contained in its pages, at the readers pace. The author is a professional counselor who uses these techniques and skills for patients in her practice. The principle of what's in our control and what is not is emphasized throughout it's chapters.

“This is a common-sense self-help book packed with
accessible suggestions for confronting negative emotions.
The actions proposed for alleviating common feelings of
anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, and negative thoughts are
accessible and easy to execute.” – Clarion Review

Overall, The littke book of counseling Kernels is an incredibly valuable and practical resource for anyone looking to improve their mental health. The book offers readers effective and easy-to-apply tools to cope with anxiety, dpression, and stress in everyday life. While it is not a substitute for profesional therapy, it serves as a strong guide for self-manegement and can be an excellent starting point for those looking to take charge of their mental well-being.

A. Weaknesses of the book :

1. Lacks depth in therapy

While this book is highly useful for readers looking for quick ways to address anxiety or depression, it doesn't offer in-depth therapeutic guidance or support for more severe mental health conditions. For individuals dealing with more serious psychological issues, this book is better used as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, professional therapy.

2. May Be Too General for Some Readers

Given that the book is written in a general format, some readers who may be looking for advice tailored to specific conditions might find the advice a bit too broad

B. Strengths of the Book

Practical and Easy to Apply

One of the key strengths of this book is its practical, immediately applicable approach. There is no complex psychological jargon to navigate; each tip is designed to be something that can be easily put into practice in daily life.

Concise and Informative

Although the book is relatively short and can be read in one sitting, it is packed with valuable information. Readers won’t feel overwhelmed by theory, but rather, they’ll be equipped with real-world solutions to common mental health challenges.

Evidence-Based Techniques

The strategies provided in the book are grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, which have been proven to be effective in treating anxiety and depression. This lends credibility to the book as a helpful tool for improving mental health.

Long-Term Well-Being

The tips shared in the book not only help manage anxiety and depression in the short term but also encourage the development of healthier habits for dealing with mental health challenges in the long run.

Carol JahanAurelia, thank you for your review of my book, "The Little Book of Counseling Kernels". I liked all the positive comments you made regarding the book's ease of reading and application of mental health practices that will help anyone. I appreciate your comments regarding the lack of "depth" to help. My experience as a counselor has taught me that clients reading a book that goes into such depth is lost on the client-they truly need someone in person who will help them navigate complex issues and concepts. I liked your comment that my book can be used as a supplement for those in therapy, which I agree with, and stated that in the introduction. My intent writing this book is to give a start for those who hesitate to call a counselor. I wrote it so the public can read it and have a range of knowledge included in formal counseling sessions, but if they don't make an appointment, will still have the basics of what they can do on their own for their mental health. The specifics about managing anxiety and depression, are all evidence based to be effective and can be a relief immediately if the individual reads this information and applies it. Thank you for taking your time to write your review. I appreciate it very much. I hope my comments help to clarify how I decided what to write and include in this book. Sincerely, Carolyn Jahan, Author
