A blend of medieval romance, and a present-day romance.
I chose this book because my ancestors came from Scotland. The Lady of the Loch by Elena Collins is a blend of medieval romance, and a present-day romance. The writer accomplished this by writing one chapter about life in medieval times, and the next chapter in present-day. Jumping back and forth like that kept me on my toes. At first, I didn’t understand what was going on with the jumping back and forth. It was only after Zoe and Leah moved into the castle that I understood the relationship between the past and present. The story is set in the backdrop of Scotland’s Ravenscraig Castle. The use of the old Scottish language added charm and character to the book. The story is in the relationship between twin sisters Zoe and Leah, which takes a haunting turn when Leah accepts a job as the castle’s caretaker and that’s when their ghost adventure begins. Collins used vivid descriptions of how hard life was for servants’ day to day during medieval times. And in the next chapter the ghost of the lady of the loch was making contact with Zoe and Leah. I must admit chills ran up my spine when Zoe had her first encounter with the ghost, Agnes. In the next chapter Collins gives a bloody description of the war between Scotland and England. The book blends history, romance, and mystery. The castle has secrets that were uncovered 700 years later. I found this book fun and easy to read.
I am an author, an advocate, and former foster parent. I adopted my granddaughter, and we wrote a book together called Carly Shares Her Story. We used the pen names Eve Collins and Morgan Carew. The book is about her experience as a foster child. I worked with inmates for 20+ yrs and now I'm retired
