The Chameleon Effect

By Joe Arden

Must read 🏆

If you like Joe Arden, you'll love Joe Arden reading Joe Arden. I'm a rabid fan, so this is like candy to me.

When Will O’Connell of Cincinnati gets frustrated with his Hollywood career (or the lack thereof), he decides to put his training and talent to use in a new way. He reinvents himself as Liam O’Connell of Dublin—Ireland!

His theory that casting directors will eat up the Irishman who can do a killer Midwest American accent proves spot-on, and he’s hired right away for a television gig. Of course, that’s where he meets Raven Locke. It’s lust at first sight for Will/Liam, and Raven is obviously instantly smitten with the Dublin boy. But now what? How can Will continue to lie to this beautiful, talented, witty woman who has captured his heart?

Everyone’s favorite secret-identity narrator is now the author of a sexy secret-identity love story! As an Audible addict, I have long been a fan of Joe Arden’s. He lists himself on social media as an author, an advocate, and an ally. (Plus a dog dad—quadruple swoon!) His conscientiousness about equality and consent comes through in Will/Liam. Will is obviously a good guy who made a bold and daring mistake—you gotta risk it for the biscuit, right? Listening to Will fall in love with Raven (while Raven falls in love with Liam!) and hating on himself is torturously sweet cognitive dissonance. What's more fun to read than a two-person love triangle?!

If you like Joe Arden, you'll love Joe Arden reading Joe Arden. I'm an ardent fan (should that be Ardent Fan??), so this is like candy to me. And, maybe this is just hopeful on my part: this novel feels like a little bit of a love note back to us, his fans. In The Chameleon Effect, Arden's storytelling is fast-paced and fun. The steamy scenes are deliciously satisfying. In this, more than ever, you can hear in his words and his delivery how much Arden loves his work.
