The Cat, the Rabbits and the Quest for Knowledge by Angelina Dayan is a tale for kids and kids at heart who refuse to let go of magic and wonder.

In chapter one, we meet Freddy, a black and white kitty who loves to leave his garden and head off to explore the park. Freddy had fun with his friends, but sometimes, he found himself venturing to the park's far end, where a little house with blue shutters stood. Freddy saw dozens of kitties playing outside and wished he could join them. He longed to go to school. He was too young for a while, but soon, the time to start school happened.

Like with kids, Freddy's parents had to register him for school before he could attend. He also needed a backpack and lunchbox. If your child is like mine, they are very selective about which bag they want each year. They have a theme or color in mind and are often not easily deterred. Freddy chose red. Great choice!

Freddy was WAY more excited about his first day than most children. After packing some treats, he wanted to head off despite being hours early. Freddy zipped to the park where his park friends were curious about where he was heading and if he brought them any treats. While it's okay for fictional characters to share food with friends, I would speak to your child about not sharing food at school due to allergies.

As chapter two begins, the story focuses on a clan of rabbits living in the park. Their leader, Ehrrara, has a big decision. He needs to find a successor, but the choice is overwhelming. He has over a hundred worthy candidates. Astonishingly, he was able to narrow it down between two sons, but that didn't make his decision any easier. Ehrrara was given guidance had formed a plan to aid him in his monumental decision.

Silver and Tawny, the king's sons, went on a mission to solve a riddle. Find and bring back "Knowledge." The first to complete the task shall be the new king. But what was "Knowledge"? Their uncertainty led them to Freddie's school, where the bunnies found a treasure trove of delicious fruits of vegetables. They stated fruits and carrots were their favorite foods; however, rabbits don't naturally eat root vegetables or fruit. Carrots and fruit are high in sugar and should only be fed in small amounts as occasional treats. But dietary restrictions aside, I found their delight over the smorgasbord delightful.

The final chapter brings Freddie back into the picture after taking a week off from school for personal reasons. The thrill of school was over. Yeah, we can all relate to his attitude. He returns to find he missed going to school, and the park is in a frenzy over the bunny invasion. Wow, I can't believe I said that, but that's what happened: a bunny invasion. Freddy discoveries bunnies have stolen the school's "Knowledge" and now want Freddie's "Knowledge" too. Does Freddie have this "Knowledge" they seek? Will the bunnies finally figure out what "Knowledge" is? How does the story? Ah, that's for you to discover after you purchase the book.

It was a nice touch having real-life animals in each photo. It'll speak to a broader audience. Sergeant Pizza, the bulldog, on his police scooter was a hoot. The bunny army photo was too precious! And who can resist a donkey in a sun hat?

This adorable children's book has two important lessons. One, you should always clean up your messes. Two, knowledge is power, so read...read...and read some more: first stop, The Cat, the Rabbits and the Quest for Knowledge by Angelina Dayan. After reading the story, put on some music and have a bunny dance party. Just don't be too loud; you don't want anyone to call the "pawlice."

Amazon's recommended reading age is 4 - 18 years.

THE KITTY WITH A RED SCHOOLBAG

Once upon a time, a little black and white cat lived in a cosy house by the park. He loved nothing more than to escape his garden and explore the park, where he met all sorts of fantastic friends like crows, squirrels, and ducks. Sometimes he even ventured all the way to the other side of the park, where there was a little house with blue shutters called "school". Dozens of kittens would play hopscotch, red light, green light, and other games in the courtyard, and oh, how our little cat called Freddy longed to join in the fun! But the other cats always told him he was too young to attend school.

Then one day… but I’ll let him tell the story himself.

1 – I woke up mum to prepare my sandwich

"Freddy, school is starting soon, and you're finally old enough to attend," said Mum one sunny morning while I played in the garden.

I was ecstatic! Often during my patrols, I walked by the little kitties' school and stopped to watch them hanging on the fence. They shouted and laughed, they played games I didn't even know, and they had so much fun! I wanted to go in and play with them, but a woman there said I wasn't "registered", whatever that meant.

"Am I registered now, Mum?" I asked to ensure no one would turn me away.

"You certainly are, my sweetie. We just need to get you a schoolbag".

I couldn’t contain the excitement and jumped over the rosebush and climbed three times up and down the big maple tree in my garden. I imagined all the amazing things I would learn at school, like building a space shuttle and, most importantly, opening a can of tuna! Life was looking up.

In addition, I would have to cross the park each morning to get to the school, and I liked that idea.

Mum went shopping and returned with a cute little schoolbag for me to carry my lunchbox. And it was red!

When the first day of school finally arrived, I got up early and carefully washed my paws and ears to make a good impression. I even woke up Mum to prepare my sandwich, to which I added some treats to share with my new friends. Once everything was ready, I set off, running as fast as I could across the garden and leaping over the fence.

"You're hours too early, Freddy!" Mum shouted, but I was already on my way.

As soon as I entered the park, a squad of crows flew over my head, calling out to me excitedly:

"Caw, haw, caw! Here comes Freddy! Where are you going so early?"

I puffed out my chest and replied proudly,

"To school! Only the coolest cats get to go to school."

"To school? What is this? Where is this?" they enquired and, without waiting for a reply, asked hopefully, "Have you brought treats for us?"

Of course, I had treats, but I wanted to wait to share them with the friends I would be making at school. I ran along the big lawn and turned right into the little wood, where a bunch of squirrels scurried out to greet me.

"Freddy, Freddy, where are you going? Can we come with you?" they chattered excitedly, leaping from tree to tree. "And hey, what's in that bag? It looks heavy! Are they all treats for us, our dear sweet Freddy?" I couldn't help but laugh at their antics and replied, "Maybe I should have brought more treats!"
