Loved it! 😍

The kids/teens loved this funny tale about Baron Beaux Bottom as a bedtime story over the week of holidays! Recommended!

Synopsis

The Beastly Baron is not a nice man. He shouts too much and doesn’t keep his promises.

When he breaks his word to the Warty Witch though, things go very badly for him.

Then they get much, much worse!

Follow the Baron as his day goes from bad to worse. Meet the Warty Witch of the Wild Western Woods, whose attempts to teach the Baron a lesson go very wrong. Marvel at the never-ending appetite of the Greedy Goat of the Glen as she bites off rather more than she can stomach. And cheer on Greta as she struggles to find a way to save her brother Hal from the sticky clutches of the Gossamer Green Ghost.

The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom is a really unpleasant fellow. He does nothing but eat, attend entertainments, and then eat some more. Worst of all is that the Baron never keeps his promises to the towns folk who need his support in attending to issues. He keeps telling them he'll fix things but then gets busy with something else and never gets around to it.

One day, the Baron decides to head out with his army to watch over them practicing. During his time outdoors, he ends up going into the Wild Western Woods where he meets the Warty Witch. As anticipated, things don't go so well and the Baron ends up having a nasty spell cast upon him. Now he's forced to find ways of working with others to reverse the spell. Can the dreaded beastly Baron learn to cooperate and keep his promises in the future? You'll have to read it to find out!

We recently went on a big family holiday where we all stayed in the same vacation residence. I was reading this book at night to myself and then the kids (teens) in the bunk beds asked if I would read to them just like old times. So out of nostalgia, I flipped back to the beginning and started reading the book aloud to them. And, what a hoot. We all loved it! How could you not possibly laugh at the antics of the wild and outrageous Beastly Baron! The Greedy Goat of the Glen was by far our favourite character in the book, especially while it was eating the "spicy" vegetation. That said, all the characters are well-written, amusing, and more importantly memorable. They'll stick with you in your head and bring a smile to your face even days later.

Highly recommended as an easy chapter book that you can read over a few nights with the kids (no matter the age, I guess)!

An avid reader since Grade school, I think there is nothing better than losing yourself in a good book. I've also taken on the role of finding great books for my niece and nephew to read so I pre-read quite a few middle grade and YA novels to find great books to inspire their love of reading.

The Baron’s Breakfast

Once upon a time there was a town called Beaux Bottom.

It was called Beaux because that was an old word for

“beautiful”, and it was a very pretty town, with wellmaintained houses and a lovely old castle. It was called

Bottom because the town lay in the fertile valleys at the

bottom of a large mountain range.

The barons of Beaux Bottom had lived in the castle

for centuries, mostly well loved by the townsfolk.

The current baron, however, was not one of those.

The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom, as he was

known, spent a good deal of his time shouting at people and

being generally rather unpleasant.

It didn’t help that the baron knew very well what

people called him behind his back, and he particularly

disliked names where all the words started with the same

letter.

His mother, who had long since given up hoping that

he would grow into anything remotely resembling her dead

husband, tried in her own way to help him.

this was sooooo painful to do on a phone and I don’t understand Reedsy demanding this level of input when the copy is available so I’m giving up here….
