A gripping book seeped in Greek mythology, with incredible characters and a plot that had me on the edge of my seat!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story starts with a dream of Maia, an immortal and an ancient village. Her sister killed two human virgins to become the most beautiful and a goddess. This corrupted her soul. Then Electra kills Maia, but she was prepared for this and spelled herself so that Electra will die too...
I started this book, knowing that I love Greek mythology. And boy, was I right. I could not put this book down, enraptured until the very last page. I do hope there will be more books in this series because I'm sure there is so much more that we can learn and explore through the pages of another book. (fingers crossed)
Ada is the main protagonist, and we see most of the story play out through her point of view. She is thrown into a world that she knew nothing about, learning that her life has a bigger meaning than she ever knew and that the birthmark she tries to hide is not a birthmark at all.
Eventually, the point of view split to include some of Kai's experiences too. This enhanced the plot. Ada and Kai's first encounter was odd and Kai referred to her birthmark like he knew more than he was letting on.
On their first kiss:
"It was sunbursts and moonbeams and the flight of a thousand butterflies and a crescendo of the mermaid's song..."
There is a magical element to the story that felt quite interesting, although I would like to learn more about the ancient world before the sisters went their separate ways (read the book if you wanna know more...)
"The Elioud are the descendants of the Titans of Atlantis. They were the children of men and of angels, and as such, they have passed down their powers to us. On Atlantis, our ancestors had unlimited access to the golden apples of Hesperides, and therefore to immortality. In untold ages, Atlas and his kings and people learned all there was to know about the runes we now use only sparingly."
"Her beauty had something to do with the way she looked at me, though, with that tender trust that made me want to slay dragons to protect her."
I am a book reviewer, preferring young adult fiction. I love reading books by indie authors most since these are the books most people don't talk about. I just started up my own blog, after having reviewed books on Amazon.
