The Androgynous Love Tale

Worth reading 😎

I’d recommend this if you’re looking for something a little bit different, there aren’t nearly enough books with gender fluid characters.

This was one of those odd cases where I was sucked into the story and read the entire book non-stop but, in the end, I didn’t feel invested in the couple. No happy sighs and warm fuzzies.

I liked Devlin and his understanding of and pursuit of Vic. I didn’t like the way he treated his niece. He spent the night with Vic on two occasions both times I’d assume the little girl was left home alone. I feel like if the author had written it just slightly different where Vic and his niece got along it would have had a much sweeter ending.

Vic is a conundrum. I found the Victor/Victoria thing interesting like being able to slip in and out of the different roles. But for the most part, I didn’t feel any real affection for Vic. Their past with the “gang” made me uncomfortable. Not that I didn’t feel sympathy for what led up to it and glad they wanted to rise above it but I just can’t relate to the drunken and drugged up orgy lifestyle.

As to the rest of the characters, Fred was very annoying and I was baffled when everything went back to exactly as it was in the beginning with him in the end. I just felt bad for Lucy. Mr. Ruttman was like an odd mix between a sweet guy and a total jerk. Li just confused me. I don’t know much about escorts and such. I’d like to know what her parents thought she was doing for money to afford a mansion that’s for sure.

All-in-all it was an interesting read. Something different that’s for sure. I was shocked when at the end of the book the author stated they hadn’t assigned a birth gender to Vic... I've removed the reasoning for my surprise from this review due to Reedsy's guidelines regarding spoilers.

I kinda go through phases where I read a book or two a day for months and then spend a few playing video games and writing. I haven't done reviewing for authors or on my blog for several years but as much as I've been reading lately I figure I might as well start back up with it.
