Introduction
Greetings and blessings to you, my fellow sojourner in this mysterious life.
Have you been wondering how to make sense of it all? Have you wondered about the amount of suffering in the world, and how cruel it seems, and how to understand God in light of all the apparent injustice?
Friend, do not be so rash as to dismiss the God to whom Christians have looked for answers to these questions for the last two thousand years. God has not left you to tackle these mysteries on your own, but has graciously given you all the guidance you need. This guidance can be found within the pages of the Bible.
As the apostle Paul said when contemplating the joyful miracle of the Christian Gospel: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” Why was Paul so grateful to God? It is your responsibility to find out.
Do not be afraid of getting to know God. Yes, God disciplines those he loves, but only in accordance with his loving purposes. If you get to know him, you will find him to be very gracious and forgiving.
What does God require of you? To do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with him. His yoke is easy and his burden is light.
Friend, are you not yet convinced? Well then, let us proceed to look at a selection of scriptures from the Bible that will guide us towards a deeper understanding of who we are and why we’re here. Then, perhaps, when all these matters have been given careful consideration, you will be able to say along with the apostle Paul, and along with millions of other Christians including myself, “Thanks be to God”.
