Synopsis
When a college thesis uncovers a deadly plot, can a young witch with a code against meddling survive a cutthroat enterprise?
Senior year already drains enough of spellcaster Sophie Morris’s time. But when her pre-law student boyfriend discovers an underhanded corporate conspiracy to destroy a rival, she dives in to dig up the clues needed to expose the truth. And as soon as the corrupt conglomerate gets wind of her interest, Sophie and her sweetheart become the targets of their under the table heavies.
Unwilling to violate witch custom with irresponsible magic use, she struggles to protect them both. And as the noose tightens, she’s trapped between doing what is right and betraying centuries of magical tradition.
Can Sophie stop the madness without losing her life… or her soul?
Sophie is Scarlet is a thrilling contemporary urban fantasy novel. If you like determined heroines, subversive schemes, and heart-breaking choices, you’ll love Greg Neyman’s dark tale.
Trigger warnings: Discussion of rape, suicide. Depictions of self harm.
A powerful good witch runs up against Evil. What is she bringing to the battle and what is she risking?
But let us back up.
A lovely girl is sitting in the evening chill by the lake. But something is wrong with the picture. The girl, Sophie, is very lightly dressed in the frigid weather, yet her skin is warm to the touch. Where does her warmth come from?
This is just one of the magical circumstances the book is filled with. All the magic is set against a delightfully mundane background of caring parents, college life and quirky friends. There are also adventures, or rather Errands. For you see, our Sophie is a good witch with powerful healing powers. And her mission is to help anybody who knocks. Her powers come at a cost, however. Sophie’s energy damages any electronic device she comes close to, which creates serious problems in our modern life.
And, then, unbidden, comes love. And loss. And desire for vengeance, and the temptation to break the core principles of good witching.
The book is hard to put down. However, there is one thing missing - a sequel.
Here’s waiting for your next story, Greg Neyman!
