Share My Love By Jamal Roberson is a collection of poetry that shows us the different kinds and stages of love - be it the highs, the lows, the first meetings, the second chances - this book has got it all. Love, after all, is a rollercoaster of sorts.
What blew me away right from the start was how the author seemed to be writing songs rather than poems and how effortlessly they were strung together to evoke such intense feelings. Some of my favourite lines include "Could never be your star / Because you lost me chasing the moon / Maybe we wanted too much too soon", which sounds like a hit pop song just waiting to happen. Another interesting thing about the book is the author's writing style. In a world populated with poems having multiple levels of meaning and philosophical words, the author has instead chosen to keep his language simple - a refreshing change - making this book more appealing to a wider audience. A sadder poem proclaims "Fantasies have come true / Blowing out the candles / While you undo your favourite decorations", making the final line truly memorable.
As is expected in any collection of poems, some poems were brilliant while some were missable - quite similar to the highs and lows the author talks about. My only suggestion to the author is to run the draft through any good Grammarly-esque app to fix the minor writing issues that I noted while reading, thus elevating the material.
All in all, I'd say that Share My Love By Jamal Roberson is a great one-time read, a book that will evoke a multitude of emotions in you and will make you realize that you are not alone, no matter your situation. If you liked the movie "Love Actually" or the web series "Modern Love", this is the perfect poetry book for you.
