Searching for Self - In Pursuit of Inner Peace

By

Loved it! 😍

Fascinating and informative self-help book on the plethora of behaviours, mindsets, and actions we can take in order to achieve inner peace.

Synopsis

“Searching for Self – In Pursuit of Inner Peace” explores our ideas of self, repeatedly revealing "who we are not" to gently bring us into peace without attempting to alter our external conditions. The 79K+ word book converses intimately with the reader in the form of self-talk which resonates with the way all of us make sense of the world today. Thus, our profound and highly personal endeavor into our inner depths is facilitated by a book filled with mere words.
Human beings today are facing extreme and unprecedented levels of conflicts and stress. Our habitual knee-jerk reactions from our comfort zone are aggravating this problem and humanity seems to be on a one-way course to disaster and annihilation. The intimate tone of this book enables it to get closer to the readers as compared to the instructive tone adopted by popular books in this genre. This book seeks to solve the world’s problems in the only way possible – by empowering one human at a time to realize inner peace. This book is a clarion call for responsibility. It invites eternal love, joy, and peace into the lives of all of us.

The author meticulously presents his research and views on the concept of self and who we are not as individuals and as a species through exploring various factors concerning the fulfilment of inner peace, as the title self-states.

Though the book is certainly word heavy, it does not lack in detail nor relevance to the subject matter. The reader can certainly recognise the lengths that the author has gone to in order to provide us with a well-informed book intent on helping the reader form their own conclusions about inner peace and how the world arounds us affects it.

The author takes into consideration a number of factors that he believes to be significant aggressors or hinderances to one’s journey of self-discovery and inner peace, largely factors such as stress, certain habitual though processes, our egos, conflicts involving sex and relationships as well as power struggles to name but a few of the many social issues discussed within this book. Mishandling scenarios concerning issues such as these are believed by the author to be a recipe for the downfall of humanity, which is a very interesting and viable theory.

The straight-forward yet clever tone of the book separates it from most conversational or instructive step-by-step self-help books. I initially felt like I was reading dissertation, however as I went on I found the writing to be making evident steps for the reader to feel as though they were talking to both a friend and a professional. It is great to see the book continuously attempt to solve the weight of the world and its woes through empowering the reader with a combination of history, the author’s own personal thoughts and numerous real-life scenarios/examples and quotes so that the reader might be able to take away a sense of knowing how to achieve their own version of inner peace after having read the book.

PROLOGUE

Who am I Not?

Pursuing inner peace involves a journey within where we

encounter many of our personal identities that we hold on

to believing them to be a permanent and inseparable part

of us. We approach inner peace by peeling away layer by

layer of these imposters that stand between us and

abiding peace. Consequently, our search for self, the

existential question “Who am I?” is more about

repeatedly discovering “Who am I Not?” during our entire

lifetime here. This book will take a deep dive into our

common identities and reveal their distortions and lies

that destroy our inner peace. As we become deeply aware

of our reality distorting perspectives and carefully observe

the fallout of our clinging attachments, we gain the power

to stop creating suffering for ourselves through our own

misguided words and deeds. But we are still vulnerable to

external misfortunes and catastrophes that often affect

our tranquility. Facing these consciously and responsibly

ensures that we guard our inner peace against external

turmoil too. We are now equipped to live our life with

inner strength and enduring equanimity.

Who am I?

In our twilight years as we become aware of our

approaching end, the question “Who am I?” becomes

more relevant. Ignorance about our authentic identity

causes us to fear death - the ultimate annihilation. Hence,

we will end this book with an exploration of our authentic

identity to calm our fears, enabling us to live a full life.

Realizing our highest potential on earth also empowers us

to face the last mile of our journey without regrets. We

lived in peace and now go with peace.
