Scoochie proudly tells others kids about her family which includes her birth mom, her sister, her two adoptive dads, and a new adoptive sister who is on the way! The story brings to light how love is the only thing important in the making of a family and how everything else can vary from one household to the other.
The story itself – as well as the artwork – focuses on diversity, which is bound to make children of different types of families feel included and connected.
The story Scoochie shares of her adoption is very sweet, paints everyone involved in a positive light, and shows that belonging to a family is very simple – just as simple as loving your child at first sight.
Both kids and parents (or caretakers) are bound to enjoy this story as it explores family dynamics, allows children whose situation is similar to Scoochie to relate to a character in a children’s book finally being similar to them, encourages kids to ask questions rather than be judgmental of others just for being different, and promotes love as the key element of a beautiful family.
