The synposis for this book is total misleading. Unfortunately, that is what got me to read this book. I was looking for a case to following.
The synopsis was bogus; used just to get you to read the book. She was never a suspect and she didn't start to investigate until you were 70% into the book. AT the beginning she was called in to the station just to give them information. She was specifically told she was not a suspect. Up until 70% into the book, she was just listening to gossip about the men she worked for. Most of what she was told she could not confirm. That is not investigating.
The writer goes on and on about insignificant things. I mean come on 3 pages talking about your cats. There is another three pages that discusses competitive parents and how they brag and lie to make their kids look good. That has nothing to do with what the book was supposed to be about. If it was supposed to add humor, it did not.
There were some things that were brought up and went no where. What was it Anthony and Diana were talking about in the cemetry? If the first victim was such a philanderer, did he really get one woman pregnant?
Humorous this book was not. There was only one laugh out loud moment. It came from someone who was not one of the main characters. The one likeable character was Cleo, the husband. He was a quiet and patient person. He showed his love and support to his wife in subtle ways.
I think the author was trying to go somewhere along the lines of Columbo, but it did not translate. Although Columbo appears absent minded, it is a perception he uses to catch the killers. This character is just "dippy".
There are supposed to be two more books in the series. I definitely will not read anymore of this series.
I am a lover of books. Both of my parents were avid readers and passed on their love of books to me. I have been a dedicated reader since I was a teenager, decades ago ;-). I read many different genres, but I love crime and romance the most.
