Too much of a fairy tale got humdrum and lost the essence of the main struggle.
What I wished for it:
-Falling in love with just a right amount of filminess
-Parents opposition but unexpectedly people's love
-Believable backstories
v/s What I got:
Every page has been a struggle for me. You can call me sexist but it clearly shows the book is written by a woman. End result was fetishization of the "couple" .
-Cause even after the romance started Alex keep on putting stress that how it such a big thing is being a first son and gay/bi.
-The mentions of zodiacs signs to characterize a personality. Who does that. I don't even know what a Pisces is.
-Don't get me started on the e-mail messages. Nobody talks like that not even poets. That was just too much.
-Man oh man the exhaustive description of the "scenes" which we seriously don't need. I mean take it 2 pages at most but continuously going on about it for 4-5 is just too much.
Where would some realistic movements be created the writer filled those parts with poorly written humor. I don't hate the book cause I actually loved the concept of sensational romance that could create wars but what went wrong is you can't pinpoint the matter directly what needed to be done was showing it subtly and not forcing it. The idea was interesting but it failed to deliver a good story. I understand this isn't a mystery genre but still a little unpredictability is needed.
This is just a typical Wattapad read, the only difference is that it received a good marketing and publishing space. And the time was exactly right. People now are digging for LGBTQ books on romance and there is whole wide market for it now after the BLs and 2gether the series(a worldwide sensation) thing are getting pretty nice.
I have always loved to read. Novels help me to enter into the world of imagination and I stay for all those emotions I get to feel during the journey of a book.
