I can’t be completely objective with this book as it hit extremely close to home with the whole sick aunt storyline. I think the author managed to perfectly portray what losing someone like that does to you. How surreal it feels and how you just want to wake up from that terrible nightmare.
I love Lara. It’s true that at first you might thing she’s mean, but pretty soon you realize she’s just insecure and struggling to come to terms with who she really is. She’s by far my favorite character.
Will is so selfish. I get that he’s still in the closet and is afraid of people treating him different and maybe abandoning him, but the way he treated Olly, how much he hurt him just to cover up any suspicions is awful. Although I liked that he didn’t just change his mind, that it was a series of things that gave him the confidence to come out.
Olly is so sweet. I love that he was there for Lara when she had been so mean to him. And I love how she confided on him about her issues because she knew that he was the only one who somewhat understood what she was going through.
Juliette is amazing. I love how welcoming she was to Olly and what a good friend she was to everybody. I was so sad when she didn’t get into the Conservatory and so proud of her when she didn’t give up.
And for Will’s friends, I hate their “masculine” attitude. I get that it’s an accurate representation of what teenage boys are like, but I would like to think that things are changing now. Despite this, I really like that they didn’t even hesitate to stand by Will when he came out and that when Olly called them out on making homophobic jokes they were actually apologetic.
I've been an avid reader since I first learned how to read. Reading gives me the freedom to visit wonderful and breathtaking worlds and meet amazing characters from different backgrounds who help widen my perspective of the world we live in.
