Sweet, rhyming book about a little boy and his adventurous “walk” to school on his wheelie chair.
This light-hearted picture book has an important message. It demonstrates how the simplest of things, like travelling along a footpath, can be difficult for someone using a wheelchair.
It depicts a young school boy travelling along in his wheelchair encountering obstacles along the way. A fun little rhyming story for all children.
This little story is part of the "Leigh's Wheelie Adventures" series and is dedicated to my late son Leigh and other children who have special needs.
Off to School in my Wheelie Chair is a sweet rhyming book about a little boy who uses a wheelchair, or wheelie chair as he likes to call it. The book highlights the obstacles he comes across as he goes to school using his wheelie chair. There are bumps and cracks in the road, a muddy puddle that he splashes through, a cyclist that bikes at a very fast pace past him, a big hill that tests his strength, and a puppy in the middle of the street. But nothing stops the little boy from reaching school on time. And on this particular day, he makes it in record time!
What I love the most about this book is the positive attitude the little boy exudes the whole time. He is not bothered by the fact he cannot walk like his friends. He sees his “walk” to school as an adventure. He is also not bothered when some children stare at him.
The only piece missing, in my opinion, is colorful illustrations. The illustrations themselves were great but color would have enhanced them and the story. I believe children enjoy looking at colorful illustrations as they listen to/read a story.
Overall, great work! I enjoyed it!
