Beautiful and heartbreaking fantasy read
Things I Liked
• I don't usually care for beautiful poetic prose, if anything sometimes for me, it makes the understanding of what the author is trying to say, harder. And yet, this is the first time that the prose actually sucked me right into the story and didn't let me go.
• Such a unique story and storytelling, with an interesting world that although you don't dive too deep into it is described beautifully and immerses you in it.
• LGBTQ+ rep done right. Sexuality/gender is just another layer of the characters and not what defines them.
• I like the western setting of the story.
• The relationship and their complexity are depicted in such an amazing way. All characters are unique, with so many layers that you get to peal throughout the story.
Things I didn't like
• This is a personal preference but, I do not like first-person narrative. And when you switch between first and third person it was jarring for me, and also I don't really understand the reason behind it.
• I would like to have learned maybe more about the Shine and why it affects some people and others not, but maybe this is for the next book.
Things worth noticing
• This is a slow character-driven story, but trust me you can't put down the book. If you are looking for adventure, battles and a rich magic system, this is not for you.
• It's going to break your heart into tiny little pieces and hurt you some more.
Overall, it was a beautiful, heartbreaking read.
