This story teaches children what's appropriate & inappropriate behavior in a simple to understand format.

Synopsis

What are the dos and don'ts for using our hands? Making the right choice is not always easy for young children. Violence is never okay. The earlier children learn this, the better it is. Our beautiful hands are to do good things. Sometimes children may struggle with this and may need to be reminded or taught what they must use their precious hands to do. It is important that parents and caregivers consciously train young children in what they are to use their beautiful hands to do towards better social and even emotional development.

This book “My Precious Hands, Mes Mains Précieuses:”
- Offers inspiring thoughts about the child’s hands,
-Offers just enough repetition to reach the child,
- Has beautiful illustrations that keep the child engaged while reading,
-Colour coded words for early French and English vocabulary expansion
- suitable for English as a second language children with the rich engaging illustrations which are perfect for picture reading a scene or creating their own story.

My Precious Hands, Mes Mains Précieuses by Kerrian Adebanjo is a bilingual children's book heavily based on religion. The author, Kerrian Adebanjo, gives God credit for their creation from the opening line, "I am precious because God has made me precious." If your family is not religious, or if you believe in evolution instead of creation, the first couple of pages might not be a fit for your family. However, the overall message behind the author's words can pertain to homes around the globe.

Kerrian Adebanjo instructs children that their hands are made to do good in the world. For instance, we should use our hands to fix items, not destroy them. Don't hurt others; embrace them instead. I would follow that up with only hugging a person with their consent because some people are not okay with physical contact. Plus, I've always taught my children that a person should always ask before touching you and vice versa.

It's always a good idea to teach children not to use their hands for violence. In today's world, that's more important than ever! Plus, as I was taught by my mom and passed on to my children, sharing is caring. Both life lessons are discussed and illustrated nicely in the book.

Kerrian Adebanjo points out many more different scenarios showing what hands should and shouldn't do. They are all things we teach our children without being prompted, but My Precious Hands, Mes Mains Précieuses presents it in a way kids can retain as they are being entertained.

This story's written in two languages, English and French. English text at the top of the page, and French across the bottom. If your child wants to learn either, they'll love having the translation right there.

After the final page, Kerrian Adebanjo asks the young readers two important questions: What are your precious hands for? - What are they not used for? They ask these questions in both languages.

Amazon's recommended reading age is 3 - 7 years. I agree with that suggestion.

Kerrian AdebanjoI took it for granted that children knew what they are to use thier hands for. It was only after I started to work with younger children, that I realised that the proper use of their hands is a skill which must be taught. This book is the start on my journey of teaching children strong emotional, social and spiritual development.

Nikky AdebimpeSo timely!! Well done for putting this together Kerrian! We need more of these resources in the hands of our children to help condition their minds and build up the right and true perspective of their identity. I believe that this book will help bring an awareness and consciousness to our children that they need to be the LIGHT and keep on shining and loving!!
