The cover of My Grandad is a Star by Lucy Thatcher, really captured my attention. While most children think of their grandparents as stars, seeing a cover describing a grandad as a literal star was too delightful to pass up. My Grandad is a Star is Lucy Thatcher’s second children’s book. She is passionate about writing and has several more works in progress. When she is not writing she supports herself as a housekeeper in the UK.

 

My Grandad is a Star is an adorable children’s book. The reader follows the adventures that the girl has with her grandad, from walks in the park to getting ice cream. The little girl has a repeating refrain when describing him, “Always twinkling, and brightening my life from near and far, I know this to be true because my grandad is a star.” As the girl describes her adventures it will make the reader appreciate their adventures with their grandad or long for similar adventures. The message that comes through the book is that the grandad is more important than the adventures and gifts. 

 

With lyrical rhymes and delightful illustrations, this book is sure to be a winner for children of all ages. It will entertain children and pull on the heartstrings of the one reading to the little ones. My Grandad is a Star would make a great addition to any home with young children, daycares and child development centers, and libraries. From meticulous editing to darling pictures, to profound words, this book gets the highest rating.
