This delightful Australian Middle-Grade novel is the perfect addition to your child's library.
What lies hidden in the hedge maze… and what if you find it?
Princess Molly likes to follow the King’s rules. Well… most of the time.
Rule #9: ‘The hedge-maze behind the palace is out-of-bounds for children under the age of thirteen.’
Molly goes in anyway. (Wouldn’t you if you’d discovered a secret map of the maze with a mysterious letter X’?)
Molly’s love for adventure leads her friends, Suzie, Walter and Rich, into a scary underground tunnel and later into the woods where they become hopelessly lost. That is, until they are found… by the wrong people.
Two men have been sent by the nasty Mr and Mrs Furrows to bring the children back to live in the village orphanage.
Now Molly and her friends are on the run.
Will Molly be able to outwit the two men with the King’s magical powers? If she can’t, they may never get home safely to the palace.
Join Molly on her adventure and discover the hidden message of the story – mistakes may cause problems, but they will never stop you from being loved by the King.
This delightful Australian Middle-Grade novel is the perfect addition to your child's library. If you are in the market for a book that extols the joys of teamwork and Christian obedience, then Molly’s Maze Discovery is for you!
Molly is pressured by her best friend Suzie to go on an adventure, which leads her away from home and safety. Their two friends, Rich and Walter Jackson, join them, just to make sure they do not get lost, except they all do. In this adventure story, the characters learn to rely on each other, trust the King's love, and follow the rules.
The author, Carmen Allen, does a good job of keeping the reader's interest, while maintaining an even pace. Each chapter ends with a hook that has you hanging on to your seat. The characters are all well developed, which helps to move the story along nicely; yet, Molly’s level-headedness sets her apart.
The pictures do a good job of telling the story. However, some pictures could be improved. For example, on page 25, Mr. Gardener seems a little awkward holding his hat, which could be mistaken for a plate. As a side note, I would encourage the illustrator to pay closer attention to details in his drawings, and use the rules of perspective to develop his artwork even more. Thereby, pushing his own creative genius to the next level.
I would recommend this book to any reader. While it seems to be geared towards school-aged children, I believe all children will be able to appreciate this story. It deals with topics such as inclusion, friendship, and mentorship. If I were you, I would pick up Molly’s Maze Discovery at the local bookstore now!

I love reading action novels that champion a brave hero - much braver than I could ever be! When I’m not reading or writing, you’ll find me baking, designing on my computer or chatting with a friend over a good cup of coffee. I live on the East Coast of Australia, with my husband Steve. view profile
