Must read 🏆

The story follows her life, from her early days of innocence to the struggles and hardships she faces as a young woman. It's wonderful!

Synopsis

Mun-gyeong, 1935. Choi MiJa is getting ready for her first day at the Elementary Good Citizen School in Japanese Occupied Korea. The Choi family are wealthy landowners and have been for nineteen generations, but all that is about to change. Their privileged lifestyle will soon disappear forever, and burgeoning love is put on hold as the family have to endure the hardship and loss of the Japanese Occupation, the Second World War, and the Korean War.

When peace finally arrives, there is great hope for the future and Korea has a chance to build a fair and just society. Will it succeed?

MiJa is a timeless story that sweeps the reader from the gated town of Mun-gyeong, a mountain pass so high that even the birds cannot fly through it, to the besieged war-torn city of Pusan where they have to live in the shantytown of Ami Dong built from reused gravestones.

MiJa is a tale of un-blossomed love and female sacrifice. It describes how a family’s hopes and dreams are crushed by the weight of historical events that still resonate in modern-day Korea.

Mija by Mark Atkinson.

A novel that tells the story of Mija. The story follows her life from childhood to adulthood, from her early days of innocence to the struggles and hardships she faces as a young woman. The book explores themes of family, community, identity and belonging, all set against the backdrop of culture and society. The story touches on important issues facing farmers in rural areas, including poverty, displacement, and environmental degradation.

Some readers may find the pacing or structure of the novel slow or confusing, as it focuses on a rural culture and community that some who are not used to reading about such topics may find boring. Then, some readers may find the writing style too descriptive or flowery.

For some, however, the novel offers a compelling and emotional story that effectively draws the reader into Mija's journey. The novel is able to explore important themes and issues, such as poverty, identity, and community, which adds depth and relevance to the story.

The rural setting is vividly depicted, providing a unique perspective on a culture and community that may still be unfamiliar to some readers, not bad for adding to your knowledge, you know hahaha.

The most interesting parts of Mark Atkinson's "Mija" may vary depending on the reader's preferences, but some of the parts that are often mentioned or that have stayed with me the most are the explorations of Mija's relationship with her family and community, especially her struggles with her difficult and hateful stepmother.

Well, the novel may not provide a strong or satisfying resolution to some of the storylines. But! You guys curious about which storyline, do you? Let's read it right away!

And really, I applaud Mark Atkinson's novel here for its touching and profound writing style! 5 stars approved! :D

Hewwo, I'm Ambe, but yeah you can call me Ba. I love reading so much. Well, because I'm health major so more of what I read also follows my major. But, surely that doesn't prevent me from reading other genres, which is also not just about fiction books like, manhwa, manhua, manga or another novel.
