An educational yet delightful way to help children understand the value of wearing masks.
Do you know any little ones who are wary of wearing masks because of COVID-19? Have you been trying to find a way to make your young children comfortable wearing a mask without feeling strange or anxious? Then Marvelous Masks is for you!
Marvelous Masks is a fun and beautifully hand-drawn story that explains how masks have been part of our world for a LONG time -- not just because of the coronavirus pandemic. In this timely story, a group of animal friends looks at all different kinds of masks, and shows just how normal and fun (and important!) wearing masks can be. And all in rhyme! Parents, grandparents and teachers can use this book as a tool to help explain why we all need to wear masks sometimes -- from cowboys, to doctors, baseball catchers, pilots...and even superheroes and witches!
Inspired by her own young children, the author hopes that this lighthearted story helps take some of your child's stress out of needing to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no mention of germs, leaving room for you to have that discussion if you want. Let's make masks less scary and more relatable for young children!
Since the pandemic experienced all over the world, masks have been a necessity people from all walks of life had to adjust to, and this includes children! Just imagine having to explain this to a child who had no idea why people should suddenly wear a piece of cloth over their face and you’d have a clear appreciation of how this book could help you.
Marvelous Masks by Nicole Billick is a great way to introduce to children the concept of wearing masks. It acquaints them in an amusing way about the different kinds of masks and the varied reasons people use them.
Colorful and attractive, the illustrations that accompany the educational narrative of this book would help catch your young one’s interest as you guide them towards knowing the different uses for masks. They would learn that people have been using masks even before the pandemic, and even much longer than that.
In this way, parents, teachers and guardians can help address the fear and discomfort young children feel not only about wearing masks themselves but about the people they see who are wearing them.
Children have a wild sense of imagination. This could trigger their many fears, or this can be used to help them see the value of something. In this instance, let this book help your young ones to see that wearing masks can be fun, useful and safe. Instead of being hesitant or anxious wearing them, they can remember the playful drawings they saw and the assurance they received as they read this book with their loved ones.

Nicole wrote Marvelous Masks for her toddler, who was so uncomfortable seeing other people wear masks he would say, "Mamma, let's go home." She thought Marvelous Masks might be helpful to other families, so she decided to share it with the world. She has a BA from Boston U. and an MBA from Yale. view profile
