Lily and the Comforting Cloud is a heartwarming children's book about grief and healing. It tells the story of Lily, a young girl who is struggling to cope with the loss of her beloved grandma.
Through her journey with a comforting cloud, Lily learns that grief is a normal and natural part of life, and that it's okay to feel sad. She also learns that her grandma's love is eternal, and that she will always be with her in her heart.
Children, like adults, can experience grief over the loss of a loved one, human or animal. We must allow them to grieve, express their feelings, and support them through this emotional time. Help them understand what they are feeling is normal. Sharing this story with them does all that!
When a person loses anyone, their emotions might be difficult to understand or deal with, especially if it's the first time experiencing a loss. Lily, the little girl in the story, is dealing with the loss of her grandma. Her surroundings mirror her sadness. Wherever she goes, dark skies and rain follow. Her pleas for help are touching and will strike a chord with anyone who's lost a loved one.
Through Lily's journey with the comforting cloud, she learns it's okay to cry over a loss; it's a part of the healing process. She also comes to understand that with time, the pain lessens. That doesn't mean we forget those who've moved on. The writer reassures young readers that even though those who have passed away, their love remains. We may not see them but we feel their presence around us, like a tender embrace.
The comforting cloud helped Lily see that even though she is experiencing dark times now, the gray skies will open up, and light will enter her life again. She will find peace using a coping mechanism, or reminiscing about all the beautiful times you've shared will help. Lily carries a picture of her grandma in a locket. It comforts her, knowing she's close to her heart every day. A locket would be a lovely gift for anyone grieving, child or adult. Lily and the Comforting Cloud would also make a thoughtful present for children between 4 and 9 years of age.
