Worth reading 😎

Page turner! Once you pick up this book, it is nearly impossible to put it down.

Synopsis

In a world chained by ancient lies, one man holds the key to its salvation — at the cost of his own life.

Kryn Darien, a wizard of unparalleled ability, stands poised to unleash a spell of unimaginable magnitude, a desperate gambit to reshape the very fabric of existence. Centuries of preparation have honed his skills and forged tools of devastating arcane might. Yet, as the moment approaches, doubt gnaws at him.

Will his sacrifices, his relentless pursuit of power, prove futile in the face of such overwhelming odds?

Once a humble priest, Kryn never sought such profound responsibility. His aspirations were simple — to serve and protect those he held dear. But fate thrusts him into a maelstrom of war, treachery, and ancient mysteries that challenge his resolve. Every step forward demands a toll more exorbitant than he ever imagined.

Across treacherous battlefields and against foes wielding deadly magic, Kryn's journey unveils a conspiracy older than memory itself.

Amidst adversaries wielding godlike powers, he must navigate a labyrinth of impossible choices.

Yet, his unwavering commitment to aid the helpless propels him ever forward, even as the cost escalates to encompass all he holds dear.

We have all heard the age-old ideation of one living long enough to see themselves become a villain. Then enters Journey of Seven Circles, where the protagonist lives long enough to see himself become a god! This riveting story grips you right at the beginning with its catchy opening line. We follow the painstaking journey of Kryn Darien a priest, a soul warden, and a wizard sworn to protect the well-being of souls as he defies all possible odds to correct a fundamental cosmic flaw that nobody else seems to realize exists. As a result, his is a lonely and treacherous quest that lacks the basic reward of even receiving a thank you at the end of it. He labors to free people deep in the grasp of lies spun by the mighty Seraphs whom they worship.

The book is easy enough to read; successfully alternating between two timelines that the main character’s story is told. The present timeline introduces the stakes of the actions that must be taken while the past timeline shows the occurrences that led to the present state of affairs. The suspense in this book is on another level. Despite the passage of time in the book,-we are talking centuries, it is not until the last quarter of the book that we find out what Kryn's true quest entails which is not an easy fit to accomplish without being a bore.

Talking of time, I like that the book is not set in any distinguishable time period. There are neither years nor historic events that can be used to mark time in the book which makes it a timeless piece. I also like that the book has a soft magic system that does not burden the reader to memorize what rules the magic in the book should abide by. Magic exists as a tool to aid in the quest and despite it playing a pivotal role in the end, I find that the system worked perfectly. I would rate the book 3 out of 5 stars and definitely a book worth picking up. However, while loneliness and the allure of self-sacrificing lone ranger are captivating themes, there is a sense that the quest is not as high-stakes because it is being pursued by one man. I believe that the book would have benefitted a bit from roping several people into the whole ‘saving-the-world journey’. Nonetheless, I find that this is easily forgivable, especially with how the story comes to a head.
