Hunting Daybreak

Must read 🏆

Couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend Hunting Daybreak and the rest of the Shattered Sunlight series. Go pick it up... Like NOW!

Hunting Daybreak is a post-apocalyptic roller coaster ride, and I am here for it! It may only be fifteen chapters long, but each chapter is jam-packed with action and suspense. I never got bored; the story never lagged. It was very easy for me to jump right back into E.A Chance’s story.

The Shattered Sunlight trilogy presented a lot of firsts for me in regards to apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and disaster genres. Before reading this series, I’ve never heard of a CME. Most of the other apocalyptic/disaster genres were about zombies or wars. I’ve never read a book where a natural disaster caused an apocalypse. I’ve also never read a book that features doctors and other medical professionals as the main characters- Riley, Coop, and Dashay. It was refreshing to read a book from the perspective of a doctor and experience how an event like a CME would affect someone in that profession. Lastly, this was the first time I’ve read an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic series by a female author. I am happy to see that since I am a woman who also likes those genres.

I liked Hunting Daybreak didn’t glamourize life post-disaster. E.A Chance did a great job at showing all the struggles that people usually forget about when thinking about survival. By making the main characters doctors and nurses, we as an audience can experience the real dangers that we could face if a CME were to actually hit us. Especially after reading Hunting Daybreak, I appreciate how easy it is to get over-the-counter medicines or the security of knowing that I have urgent cares and hospitals nearby. Illness isn’t the only thing that comes to play in this story though.

The ability to obtain and share information also plays a big role in Hunting Daybreak. Riley and her group are constantly trying to find information that may be vital on their journey to Colorado. Information such as flooded land and military checkpoints could change the course of their travels or derail their plans of reuniting with their loved ones. The group also keeps tabs on any information about their new President, Kearns orders. They’ve suspected that Kearns was up to no good ever since Adrian told them about his encounter with her before the CME hit.

If you liked the show Revolution, you’ll like this series.
