A shining and comical debut novel from one of the UK's top Cabaret Performers
Everybody’s Doing It, tells the story of Kat Wheeler who, having been dumped by her husband is coerced by her friends into internet dating. What follows is a series of slapstick and tragicomic events that I’m sure many of us who’ve tried the pit of hell that is internet dating can identify with immediately. Supported by her small circle of friends and frowned upon by her old-fashioned mother, who is herself hiding her own promiscuous secrets, Everybody’s Doing It is a wonderful and genuinely funny story of love and friendship that isn’t so much Rom-Com as it is Bawdy Slapstick.
Everybody’s Doing It is the first novel by London based Cabaret performer Abigail Collins and having picked up my copy of the book I was instantly hooked, as the inside is a narrative of events and characters many of us know in real life or can relate to. from same-sex couple, Bil and Ben, Kat’s best friend Jojo, who I’m sure we’ve all fallen in love with, to Gropey Dave, who I was secretly rooting for throughout the novel, Everybody’s Doing It tells of friendship and putting our worlds back in order, following a series of disastrous dates, which left me wondering if there’s going to be another book from the point of view of these rejected lotharios?
Everybody’s Doing It, is a marvellous debut novel by Abigail Collins, an accomplished comedy performer who has created a very funny and touching world which wraps the reader within the warmth of its pages.
Everybody’s Doing It is the perfect book to brighten a dark day.
